Dr. Boland obtained his B.S. in Chemistry from Northern Illinois University, working in the laboraotry of Dr. James R. Horn, focusing in engineering protein-protein interactions. He then shifted to focus on hydrocarbon biosynthesis and comparative genomics in green microaglae for his Ph.D. in Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics under Dr. Timothy P. Devarenne. Upon defending, Dr. Boland moved to the Texas A&M Insistute for Genome Sciences & Society (TIGSS) Bioninformatics Core where he expanded his bioinformatics expertise to include genomics, transcriptomics, single-cell RNA sequencing, spatial omics, evolutionary genomics, etc. Through this work Dr. Boland has performed research in various model and non-model organisms ranging from human and mouse clinical datasets, to the Schistocerca genus of locusts. His research interests inlcude bioinforamtic tool development, and multiomics/multiplex-based research both leveraging machine learning and artificial intelligence.
My name is Rachel Passmore and I am a Genetics major at Texas A&M University. I have been interested in Genetics for a long time and what roles and aspects it can have in Society.
Salvador Munoz IV is an undergraduate double majoring in genetics and molecular biology. He currently looks to service his hometown through the development of small projects to remedy the effects of industrial pollution. He aspires to pursue a phd/md, focusing on medical genetics research. He enjoys swimming, writing, and playing classical guitar.
I’m Nile, graduating student of 2027, and I double major in Biochemistry and Physics as well as Minoring in Math and Computer Science. I started out as an experimentalist but then fell in love with bioinformatics and bio-algorithmic engineering. Proficient in Python, bash, and c++ for mathematical computation and simulation. I had experienced working with the hprc, as well as using docker image for pipeline transportation in the work of Quantum chemistry simulation. Aside from that I have a cat, love cooking and do classical piano for fun.
Hi, my name is Bella Colunga, and I am an undergraduate student at Texas A&M University pursuing a degree in Bioenvironmental Sciences within the Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. My academic background includes evolutionary biology, microbiology, cellular and molecular biology, biostatistics in R, and analytical biotechnology. I am particularly interested in gene editing technologies and their potential applications in improving environmental and human health, as well as in disease prevention and mitigation. Outside of science, I am deeply passionate about live music, DJing, and affogatos.
Hi, my name is Sahithee Bandi and I’m an undergraduate Biology major at Texas A&M University. I’m drawn to the computational side of biology, how sequence data and the right algorithms can reveal patterns in evolution and gene function that you can’t see otherwise. I’m especially interested in applying bioinformatics outside of academia and building tools that make biological data more useful, and I plan to pursue a master’s in bioinformatics. Outside of research, I’m passionate about films and filmmaking.
